“PlayBall”–Hollywood & Baseball”
The National Theatre is presenting a free summer cinema series
entitled “Play Ball!–Hollywood And Baseball in America.”
The nine film series will begin on Monday, June6, at 6:30 p.m.
with the acclaimed 1989 Field Of Dreams starring Kevin Costner,
James Earl Jones and Burt Lancaster. Other June showings in
the intimate Helen Hayes Gallery of the Naitonal Theatre, 1321
Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., include “Pride of the Yankees”
starring Gary Cooper, Teresa Wright, Babe Ruth himself and Walter
Brennan. It will be shown Monday, June 13, 6:30 p.m. and On
Monday, June 20, “Cobb,” starring Tommy Lee Jones
as the insufferable Ty Cobb will be shown. Admission is free,
and seating is limited. Tickets are requred and distributed
30 minutes prior to showtime on a first-come, first served basis.

How I Got That Shot: An Evening with Award-Winning Photo Journalists/Exhibition
Viewing
Two of the most effective and acclaimed members of the White
House News Photographers' Association show their work with slides
and describe how they captured their prize winning images. In
The Eyes of History 2005-Stills Contest, Andrea Bruce Woodall,
The Washington Post, was chosen Photographer of the Year for
the second time. She won first place for her "Afghan Elections"
photograph (Picture Story - News), and first place for her picture
"Widow's March," (Feature Story). Pablo Martinez Monsivais,
Associated Press, won first place for "Marine One"
(Presidential Category) and second place for "Greenspan"
(Capitol Hill section). Following the talk, participants may
view The Eyes of History 2005. Co-sponsored with the White House
News Photographers' Association. At the Corcoran Gallery of
Art, 7:00pm. Members $12; Public $16.

The Artists’ Reality
Christopher Rothko, son of American painter Mark Rothko (1903–1970)
and editor of his father’s book, The Artist’s Reality:
Philosophies of Art, presents the illustrated lecture The Artist’s
Reality: Mark Rothko’s Crystal Ball, at 1:30 p.m., in
the East Building Auditorium. The long lost manuscript was discovered
in a warehouse in 1988; this is the only known book by Mark
Rothko. Christopher Rothko will sign copies of the book after
the lecture. It is available for purchase (hardcover, $25) in
the Gallery Shops.

The Hills are Alive with a 1965 Singalong!
On this evening beginning at 7 p.m., relive the songs from two
1965 beloved musicals, The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady in
grand musical style as professional singer and master teacher

Film—Carmen Jones
Dorothy Dandridge received the first Academy Award nomination
given to an African American for this 1954 musical that Oscar
Hammerstein II adapted from Bizet’s opera Carmen. The
film also stars Harry Belafonte and Pearl Bailey and was directed
by Otto Preminger. (105 minutes; Reservations Required.) 7 p.m.
