Mad for Modigliani
"He was a dissipate, a misogynist, but this is marvelous!"
said Georgetown resident John Lange at the Opening reception for
Modigliani:Beyond the Myth. Marvelous indeed. As Phillips Collection
director Jay Gates stated, "It is unlikely that in our lifetime
we will see something like this again. The guests were transfixed
on the 100 pieces which comprised the exhibit, including rare
examples of the artist's work. Although, Modigliani is known for
portraits, I fell in love with a luminous landscape of the Roman
campagna. And, speaking of Italy, the charismatic Ambassador Sergio
Vento, and his stunning guests, Mr. Lucca Panerai and Ms. Guilia
Marescca (visiting from Milan), shown as brightly as the art.
Ambassador Vento spoke passionately about the art and the artist,
saying, "It is elegant and sophisticated. He had heart and
curiosity in his private life and in the world. The female figures
go back to Boticelli and Ghirlandaio. The exhibition is overwhelming."
The Ambassador knows his stuff. Go see it. Ciao....

New York, New York!
The snow and sleet didn't stop New York social
darling Jamee Gregory from swirling into town for a book party
at The Honorable William and Anne Nitze's. Gregory was radiant
in a gold and silver lame suit as she signed copies of her recently
published book, New York Apartments: Private Views. Chic abounded
at the Nitze's elegant Georgetown residence. The hostess, in a
perfect little black dress, greeted guests whom, despite the slush,
looked fab. Among them was the ever-soigne Jacqueline Leland in
fitted jacket and black trumpet skirt. Georgina Horsey, sporting
a pin-striped pants suit, and Jeannie Rutherfoord, whom arrived
late after braving the weather on foot, but looked fresh as a
flower, nevertheless. Other guests included The Honorable Selwa
Roosevelt, Ambassador and Mrs. Richard Fairbanks, Gail Burt, Deecy
Gray, and John Irelan: all eager to enjoy Gregory's "Peek
at New York." And, what a breathtaking peek it is.
