You Take the Cake

Could there be any other choice? It’s no
surprise. Linda Cropp- Chair of the DC City Council – takes
the cake. Let me say right off the bat, Linda Cropp is a very nice
person. I mean it. As careful readers of this column know, I don’t
say that about each and every politician in this town.
She has served commendably on the school board and the Council.
But on Tuesday night, December 14, with a combination of massive
naivety, and risky brinkmanship, she all but destroyed DC’s
chance of bringing baseball here.
The baseball deal is not a good deal, but it’s not as bad
as she portrays it. In addition, it’s a fact that 80 percent
of the people going to the baseball stadium will be suburbanites
– we want their money. They get a free ride since we can’t
tax their income at its source. Linda Cropp, do you want to be the
person that killed baseball? I hope not. I also hope that by the
time this column is printed she will have reconsidered and stricken
her poison-pill amendment. Until then, eat the cake Linda.
